Despite Overcrowding, Sullivan County Jail Receives Re-Certification
Despite operating under under an action plan to correct a severe overcrowding situation, the Sullivan County Jail has been re-certified. The Tennessee Correctional Institute also recognized the overall progress Sullivan County has made in moving forward with a plan to solve the overcrowding problem at the county holding facility. The Sullivan County jail also plans to start a pretrial release program in an effort to correct the overcrowded conditions. The jail was built to house 619 inmates, and currently is housing approximately 900 prisoners.
