Southwest Virginia To Benefit From Massive Year End Spending Bill In Congress
Southwest Virginia is expected to benefit from a vote later this week in Washington as lawmakers decide on a massive year end spending deal to avert a government shutdown. Senator Mark Warner helped secure key southwest Virginia priorities with the legislation including funding for retired coal miners and miners affected by the Westmorland Coal bankruptcy. Additional funding is also secured for the Appalachian Regional Commission. The deal is comprised of two spending bills approved this week and will be voted on this Friday by the Senate.
