Powell River In Appalachia Receding…Roads Are Passable…But Caution Urged

Things are slowly getting back to normal in Appalachia Virginia in Wise County after heavy rains the past two days caused road closures and a huge sediment pond at the base of Black Mountain breach. The Powell River, which reached its flood stage at 8000 cubic feet per second is now receding. Travis Anderson is Deputy Chief of the Appalachia Fire Department.

Anderson reminds residents, while the water is receding, motorists should never drive through standing water because of the uncertainty of whats under it.
