Virginia Joining Cap And Trade Program To Lower Greenehouse Emissions
Virginia is now a full participant in the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative…a multi state carbon cap and trade program. Virginia has been moving toward participation and Virginia lawmakers have given final approval to the measure that hopes to reduce carbon emissions from electric power sectors. The bill says the costs of allowances purchased through the program will be deemed environmental compliance costs that may be recovered by Dominion Energy or Appalachian Power from ratepayers. Ten states in the mid Atlantic and New England are currently participating in the program.
