Medical organization urges Virginia governor to let non-emergency surgeries resume

A segment of Virginia’s health professionals is asking Governor Ralph Northam to lift restrictions on non-emergency procedures once a state directive expires on Friday.

A statement from the Virginia Hospital and Healthcare Association says the public health emergency declared by Northam on March 25 has accomplished its purpose and medical centers across the Commonwealth now have adequate space and resources for elective surgery patients and treating COVID-19 cases.

They also emphasized the need to put furloughed healthcare workers back in service. Non-emergency surgeries have already resumed in 17 states including neighboring Kentucky and Tennessee.
