NHTSA: Early data shows nationwide traffic-related deaths down for third straight year
Traffic fatalities across America continue to decline according to early estimates from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Preliminary figures released Tuesday say around 36,120 people died in motor vehicle crashes last year, around 440 less than in 2018. The NHTSA also says fatalities in five different traffic categories also dropped between 1%-4%, and overall, the data indicates a third straight year of drops in traffic deaths.
In 10 regional breakdowns, VA, who is in region 3, reported a 2% decrease in fatalities compared to 2018 numbers. Tennessee, who is in region 4, saw the opposite, with their region reporting a 2% increase in 2019 vs 2018 traffic deaths.
