High school baseball to fill void of potential loss of Appalachian League schedule
There will be baseball at Appalachian League parks next month.
TVA Credit Union Ballpark in Johnson City will be one of three sites to host the inaugural season of the East Tennessee High School Baseball League—a group of 24 teams comprised of current high school players that will compete in an eight week season and conclude in a World Series event.
Joe O’Brien Field in Elizabethton is also listed along with Smokies Stadium in Kodak as venues for the games which will fill the void of an Appy League schedule which is in danger of being canceled for the summer due to COVID-19 concerns.
There’s still no official word on whether the league as a whole will be contracted as part of ongoing negotiations between owners and Major League Baseball which has called for a complete overhaul of the minor league system.
