City of Kingsport expected to start a repair project and paving project Tuesday
A pair of projects in Kingsport could cause changes in commutes and leisure activity in the coming weeks and months.
City officials say paving in the Eastern Star area will get underway Tuesday weather permitting, and includes the areas of Mitchell Road, Pickens Road, and Fordtown Road. That project is estimated to take three weeks.
The other project getting underway Tuesday includes critical repairs to West Kingsport’s pump station wastewater system and will see portions of the Greenbelt close near the Boatyard Riverfront Park in two stages over the next two months. More information is available below:

During the next two months (May 26 to July 28), portions of the Greenbelt will be closed in stages near Boatyard Riverfront Park to support this construction as follows:
·Stage 1: Closure of the Greenbelt to all foot and bike traffic from just West of the I-26 overpass to the walking bridge over Dry Hollow from May 26, 2020 to June 26, 2020. Areas of the Greenbelt to the east and west of this area will remain open for use.
·Stage 2: Closure of the Greenbelt northern path to all foot and bike traffic from just west of the foot bridge over Dry Hollow to the Ridgefield Bridge from June 29, 2020 to July 28, 2020. During this time the Greenbelt, via the southern path at Boatyard Riverfront Park, will be fully open for east to west travel.
Automobile access to the parking area at Boatyard Riverfront Park will remain open throughout Stage 1 and Stage 2, except when the contractor is actually installing the force main across the entrance (1-2 days max).
Motorists, bicyclists, runners and walkers are urged to slow down, obey all warnings, detours and path closed signs, while also using extreme caution when traveling in this area. If you have any questions, please call (423) 229-9454.
