Barter Theatre to conduct special productions at the Moonlite Drive-In in July
COVID-19 won’t stop the Barter Theatre’s 2020 summer season as they have found a unique way to deliver performances.
Starting next month, a pair of live productions including the Wizard of Oz and Beauty and the Beast Jr. will take place at the Historic Moonlite Drive-In Theatre off of Lee Highway in Abingdon. Officials with Barter are calling it a special series titled, Barter at the Moonlite, and attendees will see actors perform live on stage while a simulcast on the movie screen will also show the performance.
Barter says the move to have productions at the Moonlite Theater was the only way to comply with government safety restrictions and have a summer season. Tickets go on sale beginning June 16th, and the premiere of Wizard of OZ is set for July 14th.
Katy Brown, Producing Artistic Director of Barter Theatre, thanked patrons for continued support of the theatre during its closure through the pandemic, and says future plans for the theatre this year will be released in phases.
