Police reforms top agenda for Virginia’s Black Legislative Caucus during special assembly session
Virginia’s Black Legislative Caucus has sweeping police reforms at the top of their priority list for a General Assembly special session taking place later this summer.
The list released Wednesday includes declaring racism a public health crisis in the Commonwealth along with expanding hate crimes to include false 911 calls based on race.
The caucus also plans to propose expanded use of police body cameras, having law enforcement officers registered into a database as well as banning the use of chokeholds by officers and defining and restricting use of force.
