Northam Confident Of New Gun Laws Legal Standing
Next week five new gun laws will go into effect in Virginia, including one that requires an extended background check on all firearms sales. A lawsuit recently dismissed would have blocked the bill from becoming law on July First. Even if an appeal is filed by the Gun Owners of America and the Virginia Citizens Defense League, Governor Northam is confident of the new laws constitutionality.Other bills joining the background check law include a law establishing an Extreme Risk Protective Order, a new one handgun a month law, a bill requiring gun owners to report their lost or stolen firearms within 48 hours and a bill that will prevent children from accessing firearms by increasing the penalty for recklessly leaving firearms in their presence. The new laws go into effect next Wednesday.
