NEW: More than 4700 customers without power near Honaker following strong storms
More than 4,700 customers are without power in Russell County, Virginia following a strong thunderstorm Thursday afternoon.
Information from Appalachian Power and the Department of Emergency Management says power lines are down in the Honaker and Swords Creek area.
A statement issued by APCO just before 4 p.m. said they hope to have electric service restored by 9 p.m. Thursday night.
The company also said more than 1,300 customers in Smyth County, Virginia lost power due to storm damage. Those areas include portions of Saltville, Tannersville, and Broadford.
