NEW: ETSU, Southern Conference football moved to spring 2021
The Southern Conference delayed all fall sports until spring 2021 on Thursday in response to the health and safety concerns associated with the virus pandemic.
Football, cross country, and volleyball teams at East Tennessee State University and those at the nine other SoCon schools will likely begin their competitions in February while spring teams that practice in the fall will receive further details on a school-by-school basis, according to a conference statement.
ETSU Athletic Director Scott Carter said they’re hopeful that the spring will bring a more favorable health and safety environment for games and championship tournaments.
