Northam Remains Committed To Progressive Budget, Despite Pandemic’s Paralyzing Effect On Economy
Despite a two point seven billion dollar budget shortfall that is crippling the Virginia economy, Governor Ralph Northam is telling state lawmakers he remains committed to the progressive budget it passed earlier this year. But, did acknowledge the Cornoavirus pandemic is paralyzing the spending document that has seen its revenues drained to pay for the priorities of the democratically controlled legislature. Northam says he will not restore most of the two point two billion dollars suspended by the general assembly in April that would have been used for raises for state workers and teachers, behavioral health, tuition relief, transportation funding and access to health care.
