Sullivan County District Attorney asks state board to investigate possible violations by departed Bristol Regional CEO
The former CEO of Bristol Regional Medical Center is now the target of a Tennessee Board of Medical Examiners investigation. A letter sent to the board by Sullivan County District Attorney Barry Staubus asks the organization to investigate alleged criminal violation by Greg Neal, who resigned last week following his disclosure of participating in a surgical procedure with another physician present.
The allegations came to light in a published report in the Bristol Herald Courier where the surgeon was identified as Dr. Nathan Smith, a cardiothoracic surgeon who was released from his duties last week after the published report stated Dr. Smith invited Neal to participate in the procedure, even though Neal is not a licensed physician. Staubus is requesting in the letter the findings of the state group for his review as well as a Sullivan County Grand Jury.
