Big Stone Gap Man Arrested After Police Say He Strangles, Then Stabs Grandmother To Death

A Big Stone Gap Virginia man is jailed after admitting to investigators that he strangled, then stabbed his grandmother to death.

Joshua Blake Smith, 31, told police it took Charlene Osborne, 72, several hours to die after he strangled her and then cut and repeatedly stabbed her in the neck.

Police said Smith then stole his grandmother’s keys to her car and her credit cards that he used to buy clothes and a cell phone. The criminal complaint says Smith was arrested at the scene where investigators found a blue tarp and shovel in the yard. Smith will be arraigned in Wise County Criminal Court at a later date.
