TRAFFIC ALERT: Sewer, water line installation causing traffic changes in Boones Creek Road area off I-26
Changes are coming to one of Johnson City’s busiest exits due to planned construction that will stretch over the next two weeks.
Drivers exiting Interstate 26 at Exit 17 will not be allowed to turn left onto Boones Creek Road as public service crews install new sewer and water lines along the route, according to the Tennessee Department of Transportation.
Two suggested detours include:
– Taking Exit 19 at I-26 west then right onto State of Franklin Road, North Roan Street, and finally onto Boones Creek Road
– Taking Exit 17 to go northbound on Boones Creek then making turns onto Old Gray Station Road, Roan Street, and then left onto Boone southbound
The TDOT report said detours signage and message boards will also be in place to help motorists.
The project has a scheduled completion date of Wednesday, Sept. 9.
