Finding Jami: Latest lead in case of missing Saltville woman brings investigators to Virginia state park
The three-year search for a missing Smyth County woman brought investigators to Hungry Mother State Park this week.
Marion Chief of Police John Clair told us a retention pond was scoured by divers with the Virginia State Police Search and Recovery Team. It’s just one of the dozens of areas examined by officers who are looking for Jami Pakacki of Saltville.
Pakacki was last seen in May 2017 leaving a home in a pickup truck with an unknown driver. Her last known contacts were some cell phone messages sent to her family in the weeks following her disappearance.
Clair said his objective is to find where Pakacki is and he feels the person who could break the case is still in the area. He emphasized that this is not a case where they are searching for human remains but a missing person.
“There is someone in this region, in this community who has the information that we need and they’re not providing it to us. This is the same person you are seeing at Walmart, the same person, you know, that you could be having a barbeque with or going to church with and they know something about Jami Pakacki,” the police chief said.
