UPDATE: 63-year-old woman from North Carolina identified as victim in Nolichucky rafting incident
Graveside services were held Tuesday for a nurse and grandmother who died while on a rafting excursion on the Nolichucky River over the weekend.
Norvella Arrowood, 63, of Bakersville, North Carolina, was identified as the victim in the incident that took place on the Mitchell County, North Carolina section of the waterway. Unicoi County first responders administered help shortly after Arrowood was pulled from the water.
A statement from the company that hosted the church group outing said the raft that Arrowood was riding in flipped at the beginning of a rapid. Another report said she remained underwater for 5 to 8 minutes.
