New Virginia Health Model Predicts COVID-19 Cases To Double If Behavior Doesn’t Change
With more than six thousand COVID-19 cases in southwest Virginia including the LENOWISCO and Cumberland Health Districts and a statewide average of more than one thousand new cases each day, a new forecast by the University of Virginia predicts nearly 15 thousand new cases a week by December. According to the report, if the holiday season and the onset of cold weather result in a jump in case growth, cases could peak in January with almost 20 thousand new cases per week. But the report also says if Virginian’s respond to the increase in case growth by improving prevention efforts cases could peak earlier and at a lower level.
