TENNESSEE VOTE 2020: Hagerty, Harshbarger claim victories in Northeast Tennessee
Kingsport pharmacy owner Diana Harshbarger claimed an overwhelming victory in Tuesday’s election, defeating Democrat and armed forces veteran Blair Walsingham by capturing more than 76 percent of votes.
Harshbarger becomes the first woman to hold the Tennessee District 1 seat in the US House of Representatives since 1961 when Louise Reece was elected to serve the remaining term of her husband Rep. Carroll Reece who died while in office. Harshbarger also succeeds Rep. Dr. Phil Roe of Johnson City who concludes his career in Washington after serving six terms.
Bill Hagerty will replace retiring Senator Lamar Alexander with his win over Memphis Democrat Marquita Bradshaw. Hagerty rode a President Donald Trump endorsement to a big win in the GOP red state by a 30 percent margin.
Tennessee Senator Jon Lundberg will return to Nashville for another term along with Rep. John Holsclaw. Former radio show host Scotty Campbell was unopposed in his District 3 race. Rep. Bud Hulsey also goes back to the state capital with a victory Tuesday night.
District 7 will have Rebecca Alexander in that seat for the General Assembly. Alexander ran unopposed and ousted incumbent Matthew Hill in the August primary.
All results are unofficial and will be certified by state elections officials on Nov. 23, according to Secretary of State Tre Hargett.
