15th annual Johnson City Turkey Trot shifting to virtual format due to COVID-19
The 15th annual Johnson City Turkey Trot 5K is the latest event to move to a virtual format amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
Race officials announced the event format change on Wednesday, citing the pandemic and advice from local health officials to abandon an in-person race this year, as the 5K normally attracts thousands to the streets of downtown Johnson City on Thanksgiving morning. Registration for the virtual race is currently open online through Nov. 29 and results from runners times need to be turned in by Dec. 1. All participants will get a tshirt, medal and buff, and dog bandanas upon request.
Schools are encouraged to participate and the top 10 schools will receive cash prizes.
