Tennessee Attorney General wants 48-hour law for abortions to stay in place while appeal is heard
Tennessee Attorney General Herb Slatery has filed a motion in federal court to keep the state’s 48-hour waiting period for abortions in place while an appeal is being considered.
Slatery chose to take his case to a higher court after a federal judge declared the law unconstitutional last month that requires a woman to attend counseling and then wait 48 hours before the procedure.
Opponents of the bill say the waiting period places undue stress and financial hardship upon women who want an abortion.
