Russell County, Va to receive PPE as part of pilot program
Residents in Russell County, Va will now be able to access more PPE supplies as part of a health equity pilot program.
The pilot program is through a partnership between the Virginia Dept. of Emergency Management, Health Equity Working Group, and Russell County Emergency Management, which aims to increase equitable access to PPE and public health information in underserved and disadvantaged communities that have been disproportionately affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Communities for the statewide health equity program, which was formed by Gov. Ralph Northam in May, were identified using several factors including chronic diseases, household incomes, age, disability status and other important health factors. Over 70 localities have been identified for participation in the Health Equity Pilot Program and will receive cloth masks, bottles of hand sanitizer, and appropriate translated public health materials. and more.
As part of the partnership with the state, Russell County will plan to distribute more than 5,000 masks and bottles of hand sanitizer with an upcoming distribution event.
