NEW: Global aquaculture company to invest over $200 million for new facility in SWVA
A global leader in aquaculture is investing over $200 million for project development in portions of Southwest Virginia.
The counties of Buchanan, Russell, and Tazewell are welcoming Pure Salmon to the region as the company plans to construct Project Jonah, which upon completion in late 2023, will be the world’s largest vertically integrated indoor aquaculture facility, and will be able to raise and process up to 20,000 tons of salmon annually.
The three counties have been working to land the project with the company for six years, and upon completion of the facility, Pure Salmon plans to employ over 200 people with individual wages equal or above the total median family income of families in all three counties.
The facility will be located on the borders of Russell and Tazewell County.
