UPDATE: Elizabethton restaurant owner gets 90 days in jail for sexual battery, tampering with evidence
A restaurant owner who pleaded guilty to trying to lure a teenage employee into a sexual relationship was sentenced Thursday in Carter County Criminal Court.
Records show that Gary Mac Hicks, 59, received a 90-day jail sentence from Judge Stacy Street that will be served in 30-day increments each June until 2023. He will also be placed on five years probation.
Hicks was charged with sexual battery by an authority figure and tampering with evidence following a 2018 investigation. He was the owner of the Sycamore Drive-In in Elizabethton and according to police details, Hicks used cash to try and bribe the child whose parents took out an order of protection against the owner.
