UPDATE: Recommendation for Lee statue replacement at US Capitol to be revealed Dec. 16
Who will replace Robert E. Lee within Virginia’s designated space in the US Capitol?
The state’s Commission for Historical Statues is scheduled to reveal their recommendation on Dec. 16. Lawmakers in the General Assembly voted this year to have the Lee statue shipped out because of its Confederate ties.
Every state has two representatives inside the Capitol’s Statuary Hall Collection. Virginia’s George Washington is the second person featured in the display.
The General Assembly will vote on the commission’s choice in the 2021 session that starts next month.
