Hancock County murder suspect arrested in Lee County, Virginia

The suspect in an East Tennessee murder that occurred earlier this week has been captured in Lee County, Virginia.

Garry Heath Gilliam, 49, was identified by Hancock County investigators and charged with first-degree murder after the body of Irby Neal, 67, was found at a home in the 200 block of Neal Road in Tazewell, Tennessee on Monday, according to information from a TBI spokesperson.

Gilliam was found in Virginia on Tuesday and then taken to the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail in Duffield. Court records show Gilliam has an extradition hearing scheduled for Jan. 20.
