Former VA Governor McAuliffe releases plan for gun reform in the state as 2021 Democratic Governor gubernatorial nears
2021 Virginia Gov. hopeful Terry McAuliffe has outlined an aggressive gun reform agenda, with a main recommendation for lawmakers to pass a bill to prohibit sale of assault weapons in the Commonwealth.
The move to ban assault weapons passed in the house of delegates in last year’s general assembly session before the senate shelved the measure. The former Governor and current Democratic candidate should he be reelected, plans to revive the push for the assault weapon ban. Other measures McAuliffe is looking at includes a plan to form a state agency in addressing gun violence, prohibit open carry of firearms in certain public places, and treating gun violence as a public health epidemic.
