Sen. Pillion’s PPE tax exemption bill passes Virginia Senate
A bill authored by a local Virginia State Senator seeking to grant temporary tax relief on sales of Personal Protective Equipment has passed his respective legislative chamber.
40th District Sen. Todd Pillion announced earlier this week that the bipartisan measure was given the green light by fellow lawmakers. This tax exemption would go towards businesses that have COVID-19 safety protocols that comply with the Dept. of Labor and Industry’s Emergency Temporary Standards.
“As the economy continues to recover, we need every tool at our disposal to ensure we provide employers the necessary support to keep employees and customers safe. This exemption accomplishes two major goals. First, it provides some relief to businesses who have been battered and bruised by the pandemic. Second, it prohibits the Commonwealth from profiting off small businesses through a sales tax revenue stream beefed up by government regulations during a national public health emergency,” said Pillion.
According to the bill, tax exempt PPE items would include disinfecting products, face coverings, and gloves. The legislation now heads for consideration to the House of Delegates.
