ETSU SGA issues statement on Men’s basketball team kneeling during the national anthem
ETSU’s Student Government Association is siding with the men’s basketball team as controversy continues over the team taking a knee during the national anthem.
A letter published by the SGA stated that it supports and reaffirms student athletes exercising their first amendment rights following last week’s action against Chattanooga. Members also addressed a letter signed by several Tennessee State Senators, including local Senators Rusty Crowe and Jon Lundberg who have recommended the state’s public universities enact policies to prohibit kneeling, as the SGA said they would “fervently oppose any attempts on silencing fellow students” and also called any potential policy changes a direct violation of the first amendment.
