Family Crisis Support Services in Southwest VA receives $200,000 from the state as part of eviction reduction program
A Southwest Virginia agency that provides assistance to the homeless and those evicted is receiving state dollars as a part of a program to reduce evictions.
The Virginia Eviction Reduction Pilot program awarded Family Crisis Support Services of Norton, VA with $200,000 in grant funding. Gov. Ralph Northam’s office says the funding going to Family Crisis Support Services will help to establish eviction prevention services for rural communities, identify families at risk of eviction, and provide case management as well as financial assistance to them.
“The affordable housing crisis predates the COVID-19 pandemic and we have to address the underlying causes of evictions if we want to emerge stronger and continue moving Virginia forward,” said Governor Northam. “This pilot program will implement targeted, equitable solutions to help improve the overall resilience of our communities and strengthen local capacity to deliver eviction prevention services now and into the future.”
The eviction program awarded more than $2 million in grants for areas especially vulnerable to eviction in Virginia.
