UPDATE: ‘Killer clown’ suspect from Abingdon requests pre-trial bond
A Southwest Virginia woman labeled as the ‘killer clown’ in a national spotlight murder case could find out about a request for bond later this month.
Sheila Keen-Warren has been in a Florida jail since 2017 after she was extradited to be charged and stand trial this September for the 1990 murder of Marlene Warren at her Palm Beach County home with police citing DNA evidence as a key to the suspect’s conviction.
Warren is accused of dressing up like a clown to conceal her identity and shooting Marlene at point-blank range after presenting her with balloons and flowers.
She is one of the former owners of the Purple Cow restaurant in Kingsport. Sheila and her husband Michael moved to Virginia after selling the establishment.
Warren’s attorney has said she would stay with her son in a nearby city until her trial begins if the bond is granted. Prosecutors say she cannot be trusted because of prior behavior including trying to hide $1 million in assets while claiming to be indigent.
Another hearing is scheduled for April 13.
