Virginia SCC approves Appalachian Power’s request for rate increase

Appalachian Power customers will see an increase in rates beginning in July.

The Virginia State Corporation Commission approved the utility company’s request to increase monthly rates through an increase in its transmission rate adjustment clause by $112 million to $337.7 million during the 2021-22 fiscal year. The adjustment clause, according to Appalachian Power, recovers costs for transmission services, fees, and new construction.

With Tuesday’s rate increase approval by the State Corporation Commission, Appalachian Power customers that use 1,000 kilowatt-hours per month will pay around $11 more.
