SunCoke selects Buchanan County over Ohio for $50 million plant upgrade

Governor Ralph Northam announced Buchanan County, Virginia was successful in its competition with Ohio for a major business expansion.

SunCoke Energy plans to invest $50 million to refurbish and update its existing Jewell plant in Vansant that produces high-quality coke for the American steel industry from 1 million tons of coal produced in the Appalachians annually.

State economic agencies chipped in $1.2 million in incentives to SunCoke to remain in Southwest Virginia and retain 100 workers.
