BREAKING: TDOT closes down northbound Interstate 81 due to multi-vehicle crash

Tennessee Department of Transportation District 1 spokesperson Mark Nagi is reporting all lanes of northbound traffic on Interstate 81 are being shut down in a portion of Greene County due to a fiery multi-vehicle crash.

TDOT reported the wreck occurred at 2 p.m. near Exit 36 in the Baileyton area. Traffic has been gridlocked at a standstill since the incident.

Nagi said temporary detour routes will be established because the Tennessee Highway Patrol investigation into the crash will likely take the rest of the afternoon to complete.
