Virginia’s unemployment rate drops to 4.5 percent in May
State Workforce Development Officer Megan Healy says vaccination numbers are going to help Virginia’s unemployment rating which dropped to 4.5 percent in May.
That is 4 percentage points from a year ago when the pandemic was just starting to impact retailers and other business owners who had to shutter their doorsteps.
Governor Ralph Northam said Virginia currently has the third-lowest seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in the southeast and the commonwealth’s economic recovery is outpacing the rest of the country as more jobs are filled.
