UPDATE: Kingsport police release name of woman killed in officer-involved shooting

Patrolmen with the Kingsport Police Department have been placed on leave following an officer-involved shooting at a city motel that left one person dead.

Lisa A. Short, 54, of Kingsport, died from gunshot wounds she received following an incident that occurred at the West Side Inn off West Stone Drive just after 5 am on Thursday.

Preliminary details released by city law enforcement say Short banged on the door of a motel room while carrying a gun. The man inside called police for help and when they arrived they gave Short numerous directives to drop the weapon.

The report said Short posed a threat and an officer shot her.

No police force members were injured. The TBI is continuing an investigation into the events.
