Johnson City Commission announces new “Smart Pole” project
The Johnson City Commission approved a new project in partnership with the Tennessee Valley Authority this week. This unanimous vote set a new “Smart Pole” pilot project into motion. According to the Johnson City Commission, the city will receive a $335,000 grant from the TVA to build and install “smart” light poles across Downtown. These poles can include cameras, parking availability, and speakers for music or emergency warnings.
Founders Park and King Commons are two locations being considered to install these smart poles. This agreement requires the city to install an undetermined amount of poles by the end of 2022 and report data acquired from these poles to the TVA.
