Hawkins Commissioners Turn Deaf Ear To Sheriff’s Request For Pay Scale Adjustment
Hawkins County Commissioners have turned a deaf ear to a request by Sheriff Ronnie Lawson that would have adjusted his departments pay scale in an effort to keep his officers with the department. Lawson says he has a difficult time keeping experienced jailers and other employees, and an adjusted pay scale would be one way of reducing constant turnover of employees. The request was to adjust the first sergeant position to detective pay, the jail sergeant to patrol sergeants pay and the jail corporal to patrol corporal pay and the jail cook to jailers pay.
