Sullivan County sheriff convenes in Nashville with other members of Law Enforcement Training council
Sullivan County Sheriff Jeff Cassidy was among the more than a dozen officials who convened in Nashville for a session of Governor Lee’s Law Enforcement Training Advisory Council.
The board which also includes members of the General Assembly is developing updated policies for officers that are used in the line of duty, new training programs, and other recommendations that Lee asked for in the weeks following the murder of George Floyd while in police custody in Minneapolis.
Since initial orders were issued in September the state’s Peace Officer Standards and Training Commission has new guidelines for 16 hours of instruction on topics including de-escalation, intervention, and positive community relationships.
