Tennessee woman gets 2 years for role in COVID unemployment fraud scheme
A Bristol, Tennessee woman has been sentenced to two years in prison for her part in a pandemic unemployment benefits scheme.
Melissa Hayes, 51, pleaded guilty in US District Court in Abingdon. So far, the government has indicted 35 people who used the personal information of others to snag almost $500,000 extra unemployment payments.
The case has been handled by the Department of Justice and their COVID-19 Fraud Enforcement Task Force.
