Virginia Stepping In To Assist Tourism Industry
Virginia is stepping in to address the impacts of decreased revenue and job loss, along with closures to the Commonwealth’s tourism industry due to impact of COVID19. Governor Ralph Northam says more than 860 thousand dollars in matching grants are being awarded to support 64 local tourism initiatives as they respond to economic recovery efforts. Visitors to Virginia spent 27 million dollars in 2019 and increase of three percent. However in 2020, major declines in tourism revenue were reported due to COVID19 and the forecast for 2021 is projecting similar declines in tourism revenue.
