Norton Man Headed To Federal Prison For Unemployment Benefits Fraud Scheme
A Norton Virginia man will spend two years and three months in federal prison for his transgressions in an elaborate unemployment fraud scheme. 26 year old Jeremy Short, is sentenced to 27 months on one count of conspiracy to commit mail fraud and one count of conspiring to defraud the United States. Short, along with other conspirators participated in a conspiracy to commit fraud against the United States in connection with the illegal filing of fraudulent claims for money reserved for pandemic related unemployment benefits. Short and other conspirators filed fraudulent claims for at least 37 individuals, costing the United States Government 499 thousand dollars.
