BREAKING: Funeral services planned this weekend for Hurley flood victim

An obituary was posted Friday afternoon for a Hurley, Virginia woman that a Buchanan County spokesperson says was the victim of Monday’s flooding event.

Funeral services are scheduled for Sunday for Opal Mildred Rife, whose identity and death was confirmed by Knox District Supervisor Trey Adkins.

Her body was recovered Wednesday after she was reported missing following the flood that destroyed more than 20 homes and has impacted the properties of more than 300 others.

Rife, 85, was a lifelong resident of the county, according to the information pubished by Grundy Funeral Home.
