Umoja Festival back in Johnson City; unifying community through cultural education and fun

Johnson City’s Umoja Festival is back this weekend. Festival organizers say this event celebrates ethnic and cultural diversity through unifying the community. Umoja means “unity” in Swahili, which is just what the festival seeks to do. This event began as an annual picnic among local organizations and has since grown into the festival we know today. According to organizers, this festival attracts over 30 thousand people and showcases great food, vendors, and live music from around the world. Admission is free to the public, but donations are appreciated. The Umoja Festival happens at King Commons in downtown Johnson City this Saturday at 4.
