Big Stone Gap native and Virginia Tech TE James Mitchell lost for the season with leg injury
Big Stone Gap native and Virginia Tech tight end Justin Mitchell is out for the season after he suffered a serious leg injury that will require surgery, according to head coach Justin Fuente.
The junior did not return to Saturday’s 35-14 win over MTSU in Blacksburg after he was hit during a run near the goal line in the second quarter.
Mitchell had considered declaring for the 2021 NFL Draft but decided to return to Tech to finish his degree.
"We are disappointed for him. What a great leader and a great young man he is. A team captain, a leadership council member. We wish him a speedy recovery." – Coach Fuente@j_mitch82 will require knee surgery and will be out for the remainder of the season. pic.twitter.com/uw3V7fKN8s
