Virginia Department of Health announces QR code vaccination record format
The Virginia Department of Health announced the addition of QR codes to the state’s COVID-19 vaccination records. QR codes are a type of barcode that can be scanned with smartphones. This addition will allow anyone to show proof of vaccination with their unique QR code rather than a paper card. Virginia is now the fifth state in the country to adopt the QR code vaccination record format. Department officials say in a press release that this format will provide greater security and efficiency to the process. They say this change will improve consistency and each individual’s privacy when it comes to vaccination records. Those vaccinated in Virginia can obtain their free vaccination record QR code by visiting vaccinate.virginia.gov. The QR code can then be saved to their phone gallery for easy access.
