Deputy injured following pursuit in Abingdon

A Washington County, Virginia sheriff’s deputy was injured following a foot chase on a portion of Interstate 81 in Abingdon.

Preliminary details released by law enforcement said the officer whose name was not released suffered a fractured neck when he tackled the suspect who is charged with felony eluding, reckless driving, and resisting arrest.

Sheriff Blake Andis said a vehicle pursuit began in town and then sped onto the interstate southbound near mile marker 18 where the suspect tried to cross the median and got stuck.
