Not What Historians Expected…Richmond Time Capsule Opened
It contained a bit of history from 130 years ago, but not what historians and others expected. An 1887 time capsule placed in the pedestal that secured the Robert E Lee Monument in Richmond Virginia was opened on Wednesday. A rust, colored 1875 almanac, a cloth envelope and a silver coin were found in the time capsule that lay hidden beneath the statue. Two other books were found, one referencing to water power facilities. Historical records led many to believe the capsule held dozens of objects related to the confederacy, including a picture of deceased President Abraham Lincoln. None of which were found.
